TBarium stearate is a colorless crystalline solid. It has low solubility and low solubility in water and organic solvents. Barium stearate can form a precipitation reagent for white precipitation, commonly used for detecting precipitation reactions in analytical chemistry.
One of the main uses of barium stearate is as an emulsifier. It can be used to prepare products such as oil-water emulsifiers, detergents, and softeners, increasing their emulsifying and stabilizing properties.
The preparation method of barium stearate is usually obtained by reacting stearic acid with barium oxide. Heat stearic acid together with acid catalyst to partially dehydrate and form acid hydrate. Then react the acid hydrate with barium oxide to form barium stearate precipitate. Filter, wash, and dry the precipitate to obtain high purity barium stearate solid.
