Benzalkonium chloride is a cationic surfactant, a non-oxidizing bactericide, with a broad-spectrum, high-efficiency bactericidal and algaecidal ability, which can effectively control the growth of bacteria and algae and slime growth in water, and has good slime stripping effect and certain dispersion and penetration effects, and also has certain degreasing, deodorizing and corrosion inhibition effects.
It is easily soluble in ethanol and acetone. Although it dissolves slowly in water, aqueous solutions are easier to handle and are still the first choice. The aqueous solution should be neutral to slightly alkaline, with a color ranging from colorless to light yellow. The aqueous solution will produce foam when shaken, and has a bitter and light almond flavor in the concentrated solution.
