Saccharin sodium is an artificial sweetener with a high sweetness and no calories. Its chemical name is N-methyl-N - (4-nitrophenyl) - D-phenylformamide sodium.
Its sweetness is about 400 times that of sucrose, and only a small amount is needed to achieve the same sweetness effect. It does not cause blood sugar to rise, and is suitable for diabetes patients and weight controllers.
The preparation method of saccharin sodium mainly involves reacting p-nitroaniline with thioketone, then condensing with formaldehyde, and finally reacting with caustic soda to obtain it. The product produced is a white crystalline powder.
